MacKinnon Joins Scientific Advisory Board

Jun 05 2009 Latest NewsDr. Roderick MacKinnon of Rockefeller University in New York has agreed to become a member of the Molecular Frontiers Scientific Advisory Board.  Dr. MacKinnon has made major discoveries in molecular structure and function of ion channels, proteins that regulate the flow of ions in and out of the cell through its membrane.  His work has led to fundamental insights into how electrical signals are transmitted in living cells.  Such signals regulate basic functions such as the contraction of heart muscles and enable nerve pulses to move rapidly through the body.  He was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2003.

Dr. Gerard van Koten has decided to withdraw from the Scientific Advisory Board. Molecular Frontiers warmly thanks him for his contributions and support.Back
