May 29-30, 2012 Molecular Frontiers Symposium, Stockholm

The Molecular Frontiers Symposium at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, May 29-30, 2012, will be titled "How chemical cycles shape our planet: the global challenge"

Three topics will be covered:
- Climate questions
- Fuel, environment and chemistry
- Global questions: sustainability - trends and necessary action

Moderator will be Richard Zare, Stanford, President of Molecular Frontiers. Registration is not open yet, but will be available on the homepage of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (www.kva.se/en/)

Confirmed speakers:

Roald Hoffman: A multidimensional  index of ”Greenness”, with entropy added to the universe as one parameter: cradle to grave, for any human product

Chunli Bai, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: Policy for energy and environment issues in China – an unprecedented challenge

Harry Kroto and Jacqui McGlade of the EEA: Climate Change, the Big Issues

Sir John Thomas, Cambridge University: Could chemists save the world by developing selective catalysts?

Francis Arnold, Cal Tech: Evolving microbes doing new chemistries: for example creating entirely new types of biofuels

Paul Alivisatos, Head of Lawrence Berkely Laboratory:  Nanoscience - potentials and threats

Jay D Keasling, The Joint BioEnergy Institute, Berkeley: Synthetic Biology towards Biofuels

Penny Chisholm, MIT: The global impact of single organisms

Jim Anderson, Harvard: Climate forecast - why and how? The most pressing problems

Vicki H. Grassian, University of Iowa: Atmospheric and environmental chemistry: From fundamental molecular processes to global impacts
