Sten Ljungström has a master in mathematics and physics. SL worked as a high school teacher for ten years before starting Ph.D studies. In 1988 he received a Ph.D in the Molecular Physics group at Göteborg University and Chalmers University of Technology. The fields of interest are molecular physics, surface science, heterogenous catalysis, nanotechnology and science communication. SL was postdoctor at the quantum optics laboratory (Laboratoire d´Optique Quantique) at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and Assistant Professor in the atomic physics group (Laboratoire Spectrometri Physique) at Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France 1988-1990, at the Department of Molecular Physics at Chalmers University of Technology and ESCA-LASER Laboratory at Uppsala University 1991–1994. SL was director for the Competence Centre for Catalysis (KCK) at Chalmers University of Technology 1995 – 2002. SL is since September 2002 Scientific Director at Universeum, Göteborg. In October 2007 SL was appointed Adjunct Professor at Chalmers University of Technology.
What is Molecular Frontiers?
Molecular Frontiers is a global effort to promote the understanding and appreciation of molecular science in society. Read more
The upcoming symposium in Stockholm 2012 is taking shape. The title will be "How chemical cycles shape our planet: the global challenge" and as usual we will have some fantastic speakers present. A preliminary program is available now.
"The Chemistry Calendar", a video project initiated by Molecular Frontiers in Sweden, has been awarded the best International Year of Chemistry activity in Sweden. The twelve videos, covering topics such as fashion, love, food and climate, are available on YouTube and on MoleClues. Find out more about this success story!
