Molecular Frontiers at Gothenburg Science Festival

Apr 27 2007 Latest NewsThe Gothenburg Science Festival is arranged annually for the public with events in the center of the city as well as in university labs.  This year, Molecular Frontiers hosted a newly developed activity called "The Chemistry of Love" at Chalmers University of Technology. The teenagers who participated had the opportunity to create their own perfume, learn about pheromones and test their ability to identify different scents. In a pilot version of the forthcoming Web site MoleClues, the partipants encountered everyday romantic situations through a virtual walk through a computer landscape. With a flick of the mouse, explanations appear that describe how perfumes and pheromones affect our brains and shape our feelings. Teenagers who partook in the activity gave feedback that will be used for further development of the Web site. The response was generally very positive!
